MJSP Grant

Compass Electronics Solutions & Century College Earn MJSP Grant

Compass Electronics Solutions is excited to announce that we were recently awarded a Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP) Grant in partnership with Century College! MJSP is a part of Minnesota’s Department of Employment & Economic Development’s (DEED) grant program that supports businesses and educational institutions in training and retaining workers through education and career development opportunities. As an MJSP grant recipient, we’re pleased to offer our employees an expanded roster of career advancement opportunities. Not only will these trainings support employees of all backgrounds and at a variety of professional levels, they also support strengthening our business in pursuit of our continuous improvement goals.

Compass Electronics Solutions prioritizes diversity and inclusion through creating a level playing field where all employees have access to professional training. The MJSP grant and our partnership with Century College will support over two years of education opportunities for our team from managers and engineers, to support staff, to the critical employees who operate the production floor. The program will offer employees a range of manufacturing education and certifications on subjects including LEAN Manufacturing methodology, quality systems, continuous improvement, computer skills, electrical & mechanical systems, Six Sigma, human resources best practices, and more!

Support and training for our electronics manufacturing workforce could not come at a more critical time as changing economic conditions have compounded fears that the industry may not be able to keep pace with demand. A study by Deloitte found that the skills gap in the manufacturing industry may leave as many as 2.4 million jobs unfilled between 2008 and 2028. This concerning reality even prompted electronics industry organization IPC to launch the Electronics Workforce Training Initiative focused on closing the gap between the skills and certifications employees have and those employers need.

The need to elevate the electronics manufacturing workforce to meet demand has only grown more dire amidst the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. A widespread semiconductor shortage coupled with a spike in demand driven by digitalization have forced companies to rapidly expand capacity. To make this capacity increase a reality will require even more training to prepare workers for these newly created high-skill electronics manufacturing positions.

This is why Compass Electronics Solutions strives to strengthen our business by investing in our employees and our community. We’re proud to work with Century College to put our MJSP award to good use fostering career development for our employees and helping to prepare the next generation of the electronics manufacturing workforce.
